26 – 29 Mar, 2017
Dunston Hall, Norwich
This small exhibition contains works by three Norfolk-based artists, Juan José Guerra, Steve Baker and Geoffrey Lefever, all of which touch directly or indirectly on various issues that are also of concern to scientists. Dr Helena Golanó de Sweeney, who is from Barcelona, and who has recently joined the Exhibitions Committee of the Norfolk Contemporary Art Society, has curated this exhibition for the Society, and grateful thanks are due to her, and to the artists for so readily agreeing to install their recent work.
The impetus for the exhibition has been the idea of Prof Natasha Raikhel from UC Riverside, to introduce small art-related ‘provocations’ into the context of the annual meetings of the CAS-JIC Centre of Excellence for Plant and Microbial Science. With the support of the John Innes Centre, NCAS has been delighted to respond to this challenge, and we hope the resultant exhibition stimulates you to think about those evanescent threads that link ideas in the two cultures. Artists and scientists both strive, in their different ways, to understand the nature of the world we inhabit, and we each need to understand what and how the other is contributing to our evolving knowledge.
