Thursday 7 June 2018, 12.30-1.30pm
Timothy Guerney Gallery, The Castle Museum & Art Gallery
The exhibition showcases work from the modern and contemporary collection made by women. A variety of media are used to explore the diversity of approaches by artists including Gwen John, Barbara Hepworth, Jo Spence and Penny Slinger among others. It also launched the acquisition of a new work (see sidebar photo) supported through the Valeria Napoleone XX Contemporary Art Society scheme.
Harriet gave a thorough and thoughtful account of the thinking behind her choice of works from the Castle's collections, and along with Robert Short, who had been behind its original acquisition, they described the significance of the Four Boxes work by Penny Slinger. This has now been restored for its first proper display.
Harriet, was also thanked for all her work for NCAS before she heads off to her new job as curator of the New Hall Art Collection of work by women artists in Cambridge.
