Sula Rubens: a talk by the artist including her new work looking at the plight of displaced people
Sula has often travelled to paint, immersing herself in various landscapes, buildings and their people. She has collaborated with artists, poets and musicians nationally and internationally. Her latest work examines the plight of displaced people, depicting them making music, tending animals, laughing and playing as people do wherever they happen to be. She has lived, worked and exhibited in many countries and her work has been awarded numerous prizes and is represented in public and private collections in UK, Europe and USA.
Sula gave an engrossing talk, weaving her life trajectory effortlessly into the fabric of her creativity. The multiple and varied versions that she documented on the way to a finished work were particularly revealing of her artistic process. A very satisfying evening to conclude the current programme.
