Roger gave us a compelling talk based on his choice of, and thoughts about, the ten artists in his current Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition, currently in St Albans. It was an eye-opener to see the huge variety of ways that we humans can continue to generate interest, novelty and diversity with the simplest mark-making activity, while still carrying messages of relevance to an international audience.
Born 1949 in Alberta, Canada. Roger studied philosophy, then illustration, after which he was Assistant Curator at Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, 1974-79. He then returned to art school and has an MFA in drawing from the University of British Columbia. Following the recent exhibition Hand Drawn Action Packed in St Albans, Roger will talk about curating exhibitions and writing about drawing. Roger is well known for his work as Hayward Gallery curator of touring exhibitions, many of which have come to Norwich, including the British Art Show in 2016. He is the author of Drawing People:The Human Figure in Contemporary Art, published by Thames & Hudson.
