"For a substantial period my sculptures have explored our preconceptions about the nature of function and the man-made world we inhabit. I have used farm tools as surreal objects, manipulating our familiarity with them to allow us to enjoy their forms and functions in new ways. Recently I have become more interested in the development of the ‘handle’ as a figurative element, recognising the presence of the ‘head’ within the sculptures. Gradually, as I pursued this line of enquiry, I deleted the found object from my work entirely, discovering two lines of development: the Janus series and the Benito series, both of which use colour as a key element within the works. It has been an exciting time for me." Bob Catchpole
This as a great opportunity to visit Bob’s studio and gallery in North Walsham to observe his practice. Meet in the Vicarage Street car park in the centre of North Walsham, NR28 9DQ, (opposite Bob’s studio) at 11.30am.
We will spend around an hour there before travelling on to the famed gastro-pub, the Gunton Arms in Thorpe Market, NR11 8TZ. There the owner, art dealer Ivor Braka, will give a guided tour of the many contemporary and subversive artworks on display. Followed by a fabulous lunch in the pub.
